Stanley J. Murphy Limited was established in February 1963 by Stan Murphy and his wife Barbara. Premises were acquired in Bancroft, Hitchin, Herts. where a joinery workshop was set up employing three joiners and various outside fixers. From the beginning Stan and his employees travelled all over the country supplying and fitting out superstores and shops for various clients. The main client in 1963 was Fine Fare Foods Limited the supermarket chain, along with various individual shops such as Oliver's Saddlers and Spiral Gallery.
By 1973 the business had out-grown the premises in Hitchin. New premises were built in Crompton Road, Stevenage and the business subsequently moved to Stevenage. Shopfitting and joinery continued for the next 10 years or so until Stan Murphy's son-in-law Steve joined the Company. The Company was already manufacturing with aluminium but as there was the space Steve decided to try something new and the PVCu division was started up. The manufacture of PVCu windows and doors commenced under the name of Deeplas. Not only was the company servicing a wide range of commercial entities but they were now dealing directly with the public and a domestic showroom was set up.
In 1990 Stan Murphy retired from the company and so passed the ownership of the business to his daughter, Janet and her husband, Steve who run the company up to the present day. |
